Protecting Forests in Harur (Dharmapuri)

⚡ The Challenge
In Harur, Dharmapuri, children saw their hillsides stripped bare by firewood cutting. Summers grew hotter, streams dried up, and the birds and animals they loved slowly disappeared. “When I walk to school, there is no shade anymore,” said Meena, age 12. Families depended on firewood, but the children knew their future depended on saving the trees.
🎯 Our Solution
The Children’s Parliament formed a Tree Guardians Club. With Panchayat land and Forest Department support, they planted 500 saplings of neem, tamarind, and banyan. Each child adopted a tree and took turns watering and guarding it. Street plays and campaigns convinced adults to protect the trees instead of cutting them.
🌱 Long-Term Impact
This project revived hope—shade returned, birds came back, and soil held water longer. The community realized protecting trees was about protecting life.
