Solar Lights in Remote Hamlet (Krishnagiri)

⚡ The Challenge

A small tribal hamlet near Denkanikottai, Krishnagiri, lived in darkness after sunset. Children studied under smoky kerosene lamps, damaging their eyes and lungs. “When I read, my chest hurts from the smoke,” said Ramesh, 11. Women feared snakes and unsafe roads at night. The community spent money on kerosene, but life remained unsafe and dim.

🎯 Our Solution

The Children’s Parliament raised the issue with the Panchayat and NGOs. Together, they installed 25 solar lamps in homes and 5 solar streetlights in public spaces. Children launched awareness drives about renewable energy, showing families the health and cost benefits of solar power.

🌱 Long-Term Impact

Solar lights transformed the hamlet into a brighter, safer, and healthier place.

  • Safe evening study hours for children.
  • Women feel secure walking at night.
  • Families save money by avoiding kerosene.
  • Community adopts cleaner, renewable energy.
